With the summer months quickly approaching, our team understands the importance of finding fun, inexpensive and creative ways to stay hydrated in the summer heat. Sun safety is no joke, and that’s why in honour of Heat Awareness Day on May 27, we are sharing some of our top recommendations for protecting you and your family from the sun and potential heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Knowing how to cool down quickly and naturally should be at the forefront of our minds while we’re busy doing yard work or planning the perfect beach day with the kids! The number one way to prevent the damaging consequences of too much sun? HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
Easy ways to ensure you (and your kids!) are getting enough water
Let’s be real. It can be tough to ensure we are drinking enough water during the day. Not to mention making sure the kids and pets get enough as well!
To help stay hydrated, especially in the summer months, we recommend keeping some fruits and veggies with high water content on hand and at the ready! Snacks like watermelon, celery, strawberries and oranges are all high in water content and make for a refreshing mid-day snack out in the sun!
You can even freeze these fruits and add them to your water for a refreshing flavoured water treat perfect for a picnic! (For more tips on planning the perfect picnic, visit our blog post here.)
We also love these 3 ideas for staying refreshed and hydrated.
1. Cool down with DeeBees SuperFruit Freezies!
Not to brag, but we think our SuperFruit Freezies are one of the best ways to beat the heat this summer while staying hydrated on the go, with two flavour packs to choose from, including our Classic and Tropical Flavour packs!
Do you follow DeeBees Organics on Instagram? We’ve been sharing our favourite summer drink recipes on our Reels, like these delicious Fruit Salad Slushies and SuperFruit Margaritas. We’ll be sharing lots more yummy recipes, so be sure to follow along.
2. Stay cool (even without air conditioning!)
Whether you’re at home or on the road, sometimes it can be hard to find the sweet relief of AC in the summer. One of our favourite tricks is grabbing a large bowl or bucket of ice and placing it in front of a fan to blow cool air. Sit in front of the fan (maybe with a freezie in hand!) and you have it ‘made in the shade’ in no time!
This is also a great way to keep pets cool when inside a warm house all day or cool off after a long day in the sunshine.
3. Don’t forget about our furry friends!
During a heatwave or long day outside in the sun, it is important we don’t forget to keep our furry friends cool as well! Lots of water to drink, frozen pet-safe snacks (we love frozen watermelon chunks for our dogs!), a cool, wet towel on their skin or even a quick dip in a kiddie pool are all great ways to keep your pets happy and sun-safe this summer.
