Spring is the perfect time to let children’s creativity bloom!
With warmer days, blooming flowers, and the excitement of a new season, spring is the perfect time to get crafty. Whether you're looking for activities to keep little hands busy during Spring Break or just want to add a seasonal touch to your home, these five easy crafts will spark joy and creativity. Let’s get crafting!
1. Handprint Strawberries
This adorable keepsake craft turns little hands into big, juicy strawberries! It’s a fun, low-mess way for kids to explore painting while creating a sweet masterpiece.
Materials:
- White paper
- Red and green washable paint
- Paintbrush
- Black marker or crayon
Instructions:
- Using a paintbrush, paint your child’s palm and fingers red. Older kids can place their hand down on a plate covered in red paint.
- Press their hand firmly onto the paper to create a handprint, and leave to dry.
- Wash their hands, then paint their thumb green.
- Press their green thumb three times at the top of the handprint to create a leafy stem, opposite from where the red fingers are.
- Once dry, use a black marker or crayon to add seeds.
2. Citrus Sun Catchers
Brighten your home with these vibrant citrus-inspired sun catchers! Our printable Citrus Sun Catcher template makes this kid-friendly craft even easier.
Materials:
- Citrus Sun Catcher template
- Scissors
- 2 pieces of clear contact paper
- Crayons or markers (yellow, green, and orange)
- Small squares of tissue paper (yellow, green, and orange)
Instructions:
- Print and color the fruit outlines on the template.
- Cut along the outer dotted lines, then carefully cut out the centers.
- Place the fruit shapes onto a piece of contact paper with the colored side pressed down against the sticky surface.
- Fill the centers with small squares of tissue paper: yellow for the lemon, orange for the orange, and green for the lime.
- Cover with a second piece of contact paper, sticky side down, to seal the tissue paper inside.
- Cut out the finished shapes and tape them to a window to catch the sunlight!
3. Buzzing Bee Painted Planters
Turn old yogurt containers into DIY buzzing bee planters! Planting pollinator-friendly flowers in these recycled pots is a fun way to teach kids about pollinators like bumblebees. You can even check which plants are best for pollinators based on where you live.
Materials:
- Empty plastic yogurt cups
- Yellow and black craft paint
- Paintbrushes
- Googly eyes
- Hot glue gun
- Soil and seeds
Instructions:
- Poke a small drainage hole in the bottom of the yogurt cup.
- Remove labels, then paint the cup yellow. Let dry.
- Add two black stripes and paint the top of the yogurt cup black.
- Once dry, glue on two googly eyes near the top.
- Fill the container with soil, plant your seeds, and water as needed.
- Place the bee planter on a sunny windowsill and watch your flowers grow!
4. SuperWings Butterfly Coloring Craft
This fun coloring activity transforms into a playful freezer pop decoration! Kids can decorate their butterfly wings and attach them to a frozen SuperFruit Freezie for a special springtime treat.
Materials:
- Printable SuperWings Butterfly Coloring Sheet
- Cardstock paper (thicker paper works best for this)
- Crayons or markers
- Scissors
- Frozen SuperFruit Freezie
Instructions:
- Color the butterfly wings inside the dotted lines.
- Cut along the dotted lines.
- Fold the wings in half and cut two small slits in the center, following the dotted lines. Be careful not to cut to the edge.
- Unfold the wings and slide a frozen freezie pop through the slits.
- Fly your butterfly freezie around before enjoying the treat!
5. Painted Rock Mushrooms
This craft combines creativity with a nature scavenger hunt for the added benefits of getting kids outside! Children will love searching for the perfect rocks and transforming them into adorable mushrooms.
Materials:
- Clean, dry rocks (1 round rock for the mushroom top, 1 long rock for the stem)
- Red and white craft paint
- Paintbrushes
- Hot glue gun
Instructions:
- Go on a rock hunt! Look for round, flat rocks for the tops and thinner rocks for the stems.
- Wash and dry the rocks.
- Paint the bottom of the mushroom tops white, let dry, then paint the top red.
- Paint the stems white, one side at a time.
- Add white dots to the red mushroom tops.
- Glue the mushroom top to the stem using a hot glue gun.
- Display your magical mushroom rocks around the house or in the garden! If displaying outside, seal the paint with a clear non-toxic sealer like Mod Podge.
